FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How far away is Horseback from Melbourne?
Approximately one hour drive, however, you should allow for busy traffic all year round, especially during peak season.
How do I book?
Online, email or phone.
I’ve never ridden a horse before, can I still ride?
Absolutely. Every horse is matched with their rider ahead of the scheduled tour. Our trained guides ensure your safety is their top priority. They are there to help and to teach you the very basics of riding to ensure you get the most out of your Horseback experience.
Why do I need to complete the Risk Form before I ride?
We can’t stress enough how important this is. Horseback operations are highly planned. Your Risk Form contains important information about your riding ability and confidence, which is used to match you with your horse, well in advance of your scheduled tour.
Do I need to know anything before I arrive?
All the information you need to know is emailed to you at the time of booking. This includes the Risk Form, which must be completed before you arrive. You will also be sent a reminder two days prior to your ride.
What should I wear?
Flat and enclosed shoes or closed boots
Long pants, jeans or trousers
Warm clothing in winter months
We provide the rider with quality Driza-Bone rain jackets when required
Helmets are provided and are compulsory for each ride
What not to wear: Scarves, ponchos, hats (including beanies) and high heels
What if it rains?
Our rides go ahead in the rain. If the weather is too severe (strong winds, lightning, poor track conditions due to excessive rain) we will cancel the ride and notify you on the day via SMS. Rides will either be rescheduled or you will be refunded.
Can I bring my bag, camera and/or phone?
As you are riding a horse, we do not recommend taking a bag. We offer fitted bum-bags which have room for smart phones, camera and cash/credit cards.
Do you have parking on site?
Yes, we do.
Why do we need to arrive 30 minutes before our scheduled Horseback Winery Tour departure time?
Safety is paramount. We use this 30 minutes to fit you with safety accredited helmets, discuss what to expect on the ride, go through our safety procedures, answer any questions and assist you with mounting.
Are your helmets hygienic?
Definitely. We supply you with a disposable, loose-fitting head cap to wear under your helmet to ensure maximum health and safety. Our helmets are also regularly cleaned.
Are children allowed to ride in the Horseback Winery Tour?
Of course. Children from age 10 and up can join the fun, however they won’t be participating in the tastings (unless at Mock Cider, where non-alcoholic alternatives are offered). If they are under the age of 16, they must be accompanied by an adult.
Why is your maximum weight allowance 120kg?
To ensure the best possible health and safety for our horses. Their wellbeing is paramount to us.
I’ve purchased a Ride and Lunch package, do we ride there?
No. Lunch is self-drive. Based on your time of scheduled tour, you either enjoy lunch before or after your ride.
If I purchase items on my ride from one of our stops, how do I get them?
We make sure your purchases are collected. They will be available for pick-up from our office on your return.
What is your cancellation policy?
